Kikuzome Karakusa Blue & White Dinner Plate

A blue & white dinner plate, part of our 3 piece Kikuzome Karakusa series. This plate has a slightly raised scalloped edge and is usable for all types of meals. The intense cobalt blue underglaze makes this a very dramatic pattern especially with the single flower highlighted within the white circle at it’s center. Mix and match with other blue & white porcelain or add the bowls from the same series..

Karakusa (arabesque patterns) is the Japanese term for the style of design taken from the patterns found in stalk, tendril, the linkages between the leaves and vines of plants. This form entered Japan together with Buddhist art during the Nara period (710~794).

This plate is 10″ in diameter and 1.5″ high.

Sold individually.

Japanese Porcelain

The kilns of Arita are the main source for Japanese blue and white porcelain. With an under glaze of cobalt blue and often on a bluish white base these wares are from the Chinese tradition but have distinctive Japanese designs. Arita is also the source of Japanese Imari porcelain.
